Arden Theatre: fit a performance into an Old City visit

A performance has a fixed start. Build the rest of your evening around it.

In this guide 5 sections
  1. Check the specific performance
  2. Work backwards from the start time
  3. A complete hypothetical schedule
  4. Prepare for the full duration
  5. Leave a return plan

Check the specific performance

Arden Theatre’s own programme is the starting point for production, venue, ticket and access details. The December 2002 Old City listing identifies 40 N. Second Street; it is evidence of the theatre’s place in the neighbourhood directory. A current ticket or venue page takes precedence over a dated address when planning a particular performance.

Work backwards from the start time

Record the actual start, the venue’s requested arrival buffer and your travel estimate. Subtract the buffer and travel from the start to get your departure time. Keep an optional gallery visit outside that block. If an exhibition runs late, shorten it instead of relying on admission after the performance has begun.

A complete hypothetical schedule

Suppose your ticket says 7:00 p.m., the venue asks you to arrive 30 minutes early and you allow 20 minutes from your previous stop. Leave that stop by 6:10 p.m. This is an arithmetic example, not Arden’s universal arrival rule or a measured walking time. Replace all three inputs with the instructions for your actual event and transport needs.

Prepare for the full duration

Check running time, interval information, seating and access services offered for the particular performance. A children’s programme or relaxed performance is a specific event description, not a feature of every production. If you need a service, use the venue’s stated booking or contact process rather than assuming it can be arranged at the door.

Leave a return plan

Note how you will travel after the show and where a delay would leave you. Keep the return separate from the outward estimate, since service and crowd conditions can change. After the performance, write one observation about space, voice or movement; comparing that detail with a gallery object can make an arts evening coherent without forcing every medium into the same language.

Keep this three-part record

  1. 01Arrival

Work backwards from the ticket’s start and requested buffer.

  2. 02Performance

Check venue, duration, seating and event-specific access.

  3. 03Return

Keep a realistic journey home separate from the outward plan.
