Museum for Art in Wood

141 N. 3rd Street

What you can encounter

Founded in 1986, this institution was previously known as the Wood Turning Center and then the Center for Art in Wood. Its Old City museum brings together changing exhibitions, a permanent collection, a research library and a museum store. The district lists free admission to its exhibitions.

Try this when you visit

Follow a grain line before reading the label. Compare a turned vessel with a sculptural object: where does the material determine the form, and where has the maker interrupted it? A surface may be carved, assembled, polished or left rough. Those differences are part of the work, rather than an automatic measure of quality.

A question to take with you

Was this object turned from one piece, carved, or assembled? What can you see that supports your answer?

Before setting out

Confirm the exhibition, opening arrangements, entrance and accessibility directly with the venue. This directory is a starting point, not a booking or a guarantee that a particular event is open. Descriptions of a programme do not establish which works are on view on your date.
