The name and the old address

InLiquid’s “Old City Gallery Map”, preserved on 25 October 2006, lists Hurong Lou Gallery among neighbourhood galleries. The historical entry places it on Race Street. This is a dated map reference, rather than a current venue listing.

The spelling fits the old filename huronglou.html. Read together with the Philadelphia references below, it gives this address a supported historical subject. It does not recover the wording, photographs or links that the former Old City Arts detail page may have contained.

Three records to read

  1. A neighbourhood map, captured in 2006. InLiquid’s retained page supplies the gallery name and a street reference in an Old City list. The capture date tells us when this version was saved, not when every listing was first written. Read the preserved map text.
  2. Robert Winokur’s exhibition history. The artist’s resume places the solo exhibition The House at Hurong Lou Gallery in Philadelphia in 2005. Its 2006 entries also name the gallery at SOFA in New York: a fair appearance and a Philadelphia venue are different kinds of location evidence. Read Winokur’s own resume.
  3. Anne Currier’s exhibition history. Her January 2019 resume lists Hurong Lou Gallery in Philadelphia under 2006 solo exhibitions. That year contains several places; it should not be read as one shared exhibition title. Read Currier’s resume, page 2.
Can an exhibition history tell me whether a gallery is open today?

It records an artist’s past activity. To plan a present-day visit, check a current programme or the venue’s own current information. A historical mention alone cannot supply today’s hours or access arrangements.

What the records establish

The name, Philadelphia setting and connection with artists working in ceramics are supported by the sources. The map and two artist-authored histories are separate records. They give more context than an unexplained filename, while leaving the missing detail page missing.

Try a small reading exercise: write three columns headed year, place and kind of record. Put the 2005 exhibition in one row, the 2006 map capture in another, and the 2019 resume date beside the 2006 entry it records. The distinction keeps an event date, a document date and an archive date from collapsing into one claim.

A current operator, visiting address, opening programme and original Old City Arts photograph have not been established for this entry. This edition therefore offers a source-linked history, with present-day outing ideas kept in the separate place guides.
